Karst Organics sources organically grown, single origin green coffee beans directly from East Timor (Timor-Leste), to be exported to the UK and Europe. Established in 2017, our aim is to provide coffee roasters with a specialty product whilst also committing to pay a truly fair price to our partner farmers in order to facilitate a more sustainable and consistent model of income. Having listened to our partner farmers, we identified focussed areas for support in processing, storage facilities and improved water supply. In late 2018, construction began on a centralised processing facility allowing for greater control of consistency and quality. Following which, a warehouse was built to facilitate better parchment storage. Finally, in March 2019, new piping was laid to provide improved water supply, not only to the centralised processing facility but also to a number of domestic households. A major factor contributing towards the increase in the quality of our coffee is through the development of targeted training sessions. These allow farmers to come together and learn from knowledgeable coffee advisors and also from each other. By encouraging better communication between farmers, this will benefit the local industry as a whole, as greater transparency and awareness of the specialty sector will encourage the farmers to implement more controlled processing methods thereby resulting in wider opportunities within more international markets. Karst Organics is unique as we are at origin and hands-on throughout the whole process; from the moment the cherries are picked to the moment when the green beans are packed and sealed ready for export to the UK. With full transparency and traceability, buyers can have the confidence in truly knowing where our green beans come from and who has been involved during each step of the process.
